This week the 2.0 versions of Magento Community and Enterprise became officially available to the public. While Magento 2.0 has been a crowd-sourced endeavor, with developers around the world involved along the way, and has been tested rigorously including for some real websites, it is still in many ways brand new. Magento 1.x store owners, and those interested in building a new Magento store will be left wondering what their best bet is for now.
Black Friday. On the surface, you’d think that this day was purposely given ominous, dark, possibly evil connotation. The exact origins of the modern usage of the term are lost to time, but Snopes suggests that the by the 1950’s, the day was known for employees calling in sick in order to enjoy a long holiday weekend, and by the 1960’s, it was associated with the pandemonium caused by massive number of post-Thanksgiving shoppers. Yet others hold that the phrase was based on businesses that spent the year in the red finally reaching the day where they were profitable, and their balance sheets were in the black. Whatever the origins, the phenomenon of the day after Thanksgiving being the top shopping day of the year seems to be here to stay for the foreseeable future. It’s now a quintessential part of American culture.

The 5th Magento security patch of 2015 has arrived, much to the chagrin of Magento developers and website owners. We’re of course glad to see Magento providing protection against vulnerabilities that have been discovered and are still huge fans of Magento Community & Enterprise. While the first four security patches of the year were certainly disruptive, they were relatively easy to integrate, and caused relatively minimal disruption to websites and to our production flow as an agency.
